More than 17,000 families have received heating subsides from the Chisinau City Hall since the start of the heating season. Another 3,200 families benefited from subsidies for natural gas, the head of the Public Amenities Division Ion Burdiumov stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services, IPN reports.

The functionary said subsidies are offered to the eligible persons in accordance with the regulations concerning the provision of financial assistance for particular categories of citizens of the municipality of Chisinau for paying for energy resources and public utilities.

For November, the municipality allocated 5.6 million lei for providing heating compensations, while in December – 8.2 million lei. In January, the paid subsidies came to 13.7 million lei, while in February to 12.3 million lei.

Ion Burdiumov said the payments are made on time and the subsidiary is calculated and indicated in the bill.

To be eligible for subsidies, the families must have incomes lower than 3,000 lei a month per family member. In the case of young families, the monthly income should not exceed 5,000 lei per member a month. The subsidy represents 40% of the sum calculated according to the current heating rate. In the case of houses heated with gas or other energy resources, the subsidy is 500 lei a month per family.
