Over 17,000 applications have been received since egradinita.md, the online kindergarten registration platform, was launched in August 2017, reported Chisinau’s education chief Rodica Guțu at the City Hall’s meeting today. Eight thousand applications were accepted last year, and over one thousand from the beginning of this year.
Rodica Guțu says that some parents are not familiar with or choose to ignore the age limit for enrolling children in preschool. Also, some principals fail to update the number of available places or register in line one and the same child both on hard copy and online.
As concerns school enrollment via the website escoala.chisinau.md, Rodica Guțu said that since the platform was launched five days ago, over 3,000 applications were received and a third of them was already accepted. At the first stage, until June 13, children who already turned 7 are enrolled strictly to schools located in their districts. At the second stage, parents will be able to choose from schools located in other districts if any places remain available. Examinations will be only conducted for enrollment in specialized schools, during May 21-25.
Acting mayor Ruslan Codreanu requested the municipal education authorities to petition the Ministry of Education for the amendment of the enrollment rules so that children turning 7 before November 30 can be also eligible for the first enrollment stage.
