Over 150 settlements not yet reconnected to power supply

The General Inspectorate for Emergencies said that 166 villages and towns from 15 districts continued to be disconnected from the power supply at 6:00 this morning. The road sections Anenii Noi – Causeni – Stefan Voda, Veshnevca – Cantemir, Vulcanesti – Cahul – Taraclia, and Leova – Cantemir are hardly passable, IPN reports.

During the night, rescuers and firefighters intervened to unblock a number of units of transport that got stuck in snowdrifts near Troita Noua, Geamana, Varnita, Delacau and Ciobanovca villages of Anenii Noi district. The assistance of rescuers was also needed not far from Coscalia and Chircaiesti villages of Causeni district. Firemen towed away two blocked buses, one of which was transporting children to school.

The Border Police said that three border crossing points remain closed owing to the snowy roads and the interruption in the power supply on the Ukrainian side. These are Ceadir-Lunga – Maloiaroslavets, Ceadir-Lunga – Novyie-Traiany, and Giurgiulesti – Reni. They move with difficulty through the border crossing points Basarabeasca – Serpneovo and Saiti – Lesnoe.

The customs posts “Cismichioi” and “Harbovat” resumed work in the evening of January 18, while the hovercraft customs posts “Mirnoe” and “Molovata” in the morning of January 19. The Customs Service said the customs posts “Basarabeasca”, “Ceadir-Lunga 1”, “Ceadir-Lunga 2”, “Saiti” and “Giurgiulesti 2” do not yet work.
