“We became champions by public events. The calendar does not include enough days and should be extended so that those who want to mount protests are able to,” Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said, commenting on the fact that over 14,000 protests were staged in the capital city last year. In the April 2 meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, the head of the Social Humanitarian and Interethnic Relations Division Nina Stratulat asked increasing the number of Division’s employees as the current personnel do not manage to attend all the public events, as the legislation requires. “Under the law, representatives of the local public administration must be present at all the public meetings, alongside the police, but there are too many such events,” she stated. “They do not hurry to take part in cleanup activities, but are ready to stage protests 457 days of 365 days a year. I wonder if there are other countries besides us that have such work indicators,” said the mayor. Dorin Chirtoaca added the Division’s personnel will be increased by reducing the number of employees of other units of the City Hall.
