More than 1,200 tonnes of pesticides will be taken from 15 central district depots of Moldova to Poland to be destroyed within the last stage of the NATO Project “Disposal of Pesticides and Dangerous Chemicals in Moldova”, Major Lieutenant Maria Arama, acting head of the Ministry of Defense’s Public Relations Service, has told IPN.
The last stage of the project will be launched at the pesticides depot in Danceni, Ialoveni on July 9. The pesticides will be transported to Poland through Ukraine and will be destroyed at the incineration plant of a Polish company.
On this occasion, 20 National Army servicemen took part in a workshop where they were trained to manage pesticide waste and to implement technologies for preparing pesticides for export.
The project was rolled out in 2006. The last stage is implemented in the context of the agreement on the disposal of pesticides and dangerous chemicals in Moldova for 2013-2014 that was signed by the Government of Moldova and the NATO Maintenance and Supply Organization (NAMSO) in Brussels on June 22, 2011.
