Over 1,200 detainees to vote in April 5 elections
The detainees in remand centers and the ones sentenced for minor offenses have the right to vote under the Election Code. According to data of the Penitentiaries Department (DIP), there are over 1,200 people enjoying this right at the moment, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The exact number is to be specified till April 5 elections.
The DIP has started to prepare for the electoral process by distributing the necessary documents to the detainees. They will also be informed about the legal electoral provisions by penitentiary administrations.
By the elections day, each jail will organize the voting procedures assisted by electoral judges and observers.
