More than 11,000 families in the municipality of Chisinau submitted own responsibility statements to get cold-month allowances. Another 700 applications were filed to the housing stock managing companies, IPN reports.  

Cold-month allowances covering a part of the cost of public utilities can be asked for by persons from socially deprived groups that during the past 12 months had an average global income lower than 2,500 lei a month per family member.

“We expect that last year’s figure will repeat this year or will even grow. It’s yet sure that the level of average income was raised from 1,400 to 2,500 lei and this is more than the upper limit. In the municipality of Chisinau, allowances are provided without inventorying the household possessions,” said Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca.

The applicants will get cold-month allowances in the amount of 40% of the electricity and hot water bills. The allowance for natural gas, electric power, wood and coal used for heating represents 450 lei a month per family, while for solitary pensioners the same allowance is 900 lei a month.

More than 34,000 families were given cold-month allowances the previous cold season. A sum of over 77 million lei was allocated from the municipal budget for the purpose.
