The voting process goes smoothly and no complaints were submitted to the Central Election Commission by 10am, the Commission’s president Iurie Ciocan said in a news conference. The voter turnout at 10am was over 11%, IPN reports.
Iurie Ciocan stated that the highest voter turnout was recorded in Balanesti village of Nisporeni district, where 44% of the voters cast their ballots by 10am. Only 2% of the electors voted in Rascani district of Chisinau by the same hour.
The official also informed that the youngest independent candidate for the post of mayor is 25 and is a man, with the political parties fielding 19 candidates aged 25, including four women. The eldest independent candidate for the mayoralty is 71, while the eldest candidate put forward by a party is 76.
