Over 100 snakes stay hidden at Zoological Garden

More than 100 snakes of different species stay hidden from visitors’ eyes at the Zoological Garden in Chisinau. Zoo director Alexei Hantatuc has told Info-Prim Neo that no terrarium will be built in the near future as there are no funds. A sum of about US$1 million is needed for the purpose. The over 100 snakes represent 60 species. They are kept in a narrow, but safe area. The oldest snake is an anaconda aged 25. According to Alexei Hantatuc, a project was designed to construct a terrarium, but it hasn’t been yet supported by the authorities or economic entities. The zoo also has a rich collection of birds that cannot be seen either as there are no appropriate conditions. The Zoological Garden in Chisinau was opened on May 9, 1978 and includes over 1,000 animals of different species from al the continents.
