The Ministry of the Interior last year discharged over 1,600 persons, more than 100 of whom for discrediting and discipline violation. Other persons were fired on health grounds, at request, or for other reasons, it is said in the Ministry’s annual report, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. According to the report, only 10% of the almost 600 Traffic Police employees who were subject to re-assessment passed the tests by one attempt. The others were either dismissed or were offered a trial period of six months. The Ministry’s personnel total almost 14,000 persons. More than 1,500 posts, including in the command body, are not filled. The report also says that the number of offenses committed on Moldova’s territory in 2012 increased by 4% on a year before. The crimes committed in the transport sector are the highest in number. Among other frequent offenses are the counterfeiting of banknotes, offenses against the family and minors. The number of thefts, illegal border crossings and drug-related offenses diminished.
