Over 100 institutionalized children in the capital city do not have a home where they can go on the City Day. They will remain in the boarding schools were they study and enjoy the small feasts organized for them from the resources provided by the state and by people of good faith. Ludmila Garstea, head of the boarding school No.1, told Info-Prim Neo that about 20 of the 85 children studying at the school will remain in the institution on the City Day. They are mainly orphans and abandoned children or children whose families do not have a place of their own. After the artistic events in which the boarding school will participate on Sunday morning, the children will go for a walk in the city for several hours, accompanied by an educator. They will probably have some pocket money, sourced from donations, but not more than 20 lei each. According to the cited source, sometimes, during holidays, the children go to the cinema, theatre or other recreational centres owing to the support of kind-hearted people. No one came with such an offer this time. After lunch, the children will remain in the school to do their homework for the next day. Only the technical personnel will work in the boarding school No. 2 on the City Day, as during other holidays, the institution’s head Agafia Procop said. About ten children of the total 424 will not go home to celebrate the holiday with the biological families or relatives. They will not go out in the town either. Instead, the cooks will prepare a delicious meal for them – forcemeat rolls of cabbage and salad as the children like, Procop said. About 15% of the children studying at the boarding school No.3 will go for a walk in the city after taking part in a theatrical performance. But they will not have pocket money. The institution’s head Irina Rosca says that they do not have resources for this. When returning to the school, the children will have a modest meal, but with pies or cakes. After lunch, they will attend the usual sports courses and hear a flute performance given by a group of students. Afterwards, they will do their homework. According to official accounts, 82% of the children living in childcare residential institutions in Moldova have biological or extended families.
