Over 100 cars registered in Transnistria taken to special parking place

More than 100 cars with Transnistrian registration numbers were removed from traffic and taken to a special parking place as of June 1, 2017, when the legal provisions that ban these vehicles from travelling on public road if the drivers own Moldovan driver’s licenses and live on the left side of the Nistru came into force.

National Patrolling Inspectorate chief Marin Maxian has told IPN that since the given provisions took effect until the second half of this March, more than 100 cars registered in Transnistria and driven by persons with Moldovan licenses were stopped.

As of April 1, 2017, the persons who own Moldovan driver’s licenses and live in the Transnistrian region cannot travel by cars with Transnistrian registration numbers on public roads.

If the driver do not comply with the legal requirements, the unit of transport is taken to the special parking place or the closest police station. The given vehicles are allowed to travel only if they are the property of business entities from Transnistrian territorial-administrative units and Bender municipality and if the drivers are employees of these.

Under the Contravention Code, the parked vehicle is restored to the owner or legal representative after all the reasons for which the car was taken to the parking place are dealt with. The transportation and parking costs are covered by the culprits.

Before the given provisions took effect, for almost half a year the owners of motor vehicles registered in the Transnistrian reason could place these under import customs regime, regardless of the car’s age, by paying an excise duty of 30% of the rate set for 2016.
