More than 1 million people in Moldova completed a primary COVID-19 vaccine series, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Health.
The highest full vaccination rate is among persons aged between 70 and 79. The national immunization coverage among the general population is over 29% or 47% of the population with ordinary residence, as reported by the National Bureau of Statistics.
The COVID-19 immunization campaign in Moldova was launched on March 2, 2021. About 1.860 million doses, including boosters, have been administered so far.
Such types of vaccine as Pfizer, Moderna, AstraZeneca, Sinopharm and Sinovac are currently available in Moldova.
The Ministry of Health for January 18 reported a record number of new cases of COVID-19, 2,681. Over 2,000 new cases the last time were recovered during the pandemic wave of spring 2021.
Of the 1,345 persons with COVID-19 who are now in the hospital, 90 are in a very serious states and three of them were put on a ventilator.
Minister of Health Ala Nemerenco earlier said that 3,000-4,000 new cases of COVID-19 a day are expected to be logged in Moldova now that the country was hit by a new pandemic wave.
