Ambassador Radojko Bogojevic, the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, will go to Tiraspol to prepare the next round of talks in the 5+2 format. After a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Eugen Carpov, the diplomat said he will try to persuade Tiraspol not to postpone this round of talks, as they did with the round scheduled for July, IPN reports.
Radojko Bogojevic said the next round should focus on subjects from all the three baskets. He voiced hope that the round set to take place in Vienna on September 11-12 will be held even if Tiraspol announced that it is not ready to confirm its participation.
Eugen Carpov said the Moldovan side wants to include the problem of Moldovan-administered Latin-script schools in the agenda of the talks, more exactly to work out a long-lasting mechanism for ensuring their functioning so as to avoid the appearance of problems in the future. Chisinau wants to discuss the economic relations between the two sides of the Nistru River. “We want to explain that we do not intend to impose economic blockades,” said Eugen Carpov, adding that the partners from Tiraspol should analyze their acts to see if they do not cause a blockage themselves.
Eugen Carpov noted that they also want to discuss the situation of the farmers who own land on the left bank of the Nistru so that they are not hampered by the region’s administration to cultivate the land this autumn.
Earlier, Tiraspol said that it is not ready to take part in the round of talks set for September owing to the fact that Chisinau started criminal cases against decision makers of the region. Chisinau describes Tiraspol’s position as a new attempt to exert pressure.
