OSCE reports Vardanyan and Cazac to be in satisfactory condition
Vlad Filat met today with the wife of journalist Ernest Vardanyan, Irina Vardanyan, and with the mother of Ilie Cazac, Stela Surkichyan, to encourage them.
The prime minister informed the women of the Government's decision to grant each family 25,000 lei, it was said in a press release from the Government, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Victor Osipov, who said the two detainees were visited by OSCE Mission Head Philip Remler. OSCE reported that both were in satisfactory condition.
Today the OSCE presented a report with information on the two detainees, which was communicated to all the OSCE member countries.
Premier Vlad Filat said the Government was making all the effort to obtain the unconditional release of the detainees. “We are not alone in out effort. He have the support of our foreign partners. There has been virtually no meeting where the release of Ernest Vardanyan and Ilie Cazac wouldn't be broached”, said he, adding that further steps would be taken to set them free.
Journalist Ernest Vardanyan was arrested on April 7 on charges of treason and spying in favor of Moldova. Ilie Cazac, 24, served as tax inspector in Bender before being arrested in March on the same charges. His parents, who haven't been allowed to see him since his arrest, have today entered the tenth day of a hunger strike staged outside the Russian Embassy in Chisinau, believing Russia has the authority to obtain the release of their son.
