OSCE Ministerial Council adopts no final declaration on Moldova

The OSCE Ministerial Council has not adopted a final political declaration and a regional declaration on Moldova this year either, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Moldova. In his final speech at the Athens meeting, Moldova's Foreign Minister Iurie Leanca expressed his disappointment at the fact that even if the Moldovan delegation and the players involved made consistent efforts, the OSCE did not manage again to reach a consensus on these important documents. The meeting of the OSCE Ministerial Council held between December 1 and 2 ended with the adoption of a series of decisions and declarations, including on strengthening dialogue and co-operation on energy security, on women's participation in political and public life, on assigning the 2012 OSCE Chairmanship to Ireland and making Australia the Organization's 12th Partner for Cooperation country. There was also adopted the Ministerial Declaration on the Corfu Process within the OSCE, which defines the major areas of activity in combating the new and old risks to security. Twenty-seven member states of the NATO made a statement, reiterating the position that the CFE Treaty should be ratified only after all the commitments outlined in the CFE Final Act of 1999 and its annexes are fulfilled. Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia and other countries aligned themselves with the statement. At the meeting, a group of OSCE participating states distributed a declaration on celebrating the 20th anniversary of the reunification of Europe, with which Moldova also associated itself.
