OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Astrid Thors is paying a visit to Moldova. On May 23, the official met with Deputy Prime Minister Gheorghe Balan, IPN reports.

According to the Reintegration Office, the Deputy Prime Minister informed Astrid Thors about the latest developments in the Transnistrian conflict settlement process, the efforts made to continue the official meetings within the 5+2 format talks, and the results of the working meetings of the chief negotiators of Chisinau and Tiraspol to the talks.

As to the observance of the basic human rights and freedoms in Transnistria, the interlocutors discussed in particular the situation of the Moldovan-administered, Romanian-language schools and the barriers that prevent these from working normally.
