The OSCE Mission to Moldova encourages joint events to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Transnistrian conflict. The Acting Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova Jan Plešinger called on the authorities on both banks of the Nistru River to conduct joint memorial events on March 2, 2012 to mark the 20th anniversary of the Transnistrian conflict, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a press release from the Mission. Jan Plešinger recalled the joint address signed last Thursday, February 16, by representatives of OSCE, Russia and Ukraine to the Joint Control Commission – a supervisory body for the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. In the address, the representatives proposed to the authorities on all levels to hold joint commemorative events to mark the 20th anniversary of the tragic events of March 1992. “Coming together to remember the dead would help strengthen the dialogue and trust among people across the river and would contribute to reconciliation. This would set an example for the new generations in preventing such tragedies in the future,” Plešinger stressed. Representatives of the OSCE, Russia and Ukraine also called on the sides to exchange information on events to be held and show tolerance and mutual respect to avoid potential aggravation of the situation in the Security Zone.
