Orthodox Christians observe the Annunciation

The Orthodox Christians following the old Church calendar on April 7 observe the Feast of the Annunciation, which marks the visit of Angel Gabriel to Virgin Mary, during which he told her that she would be the mother of Jesus Christ.

Priest Nicolae Burlacu, of Saint Teodora de la Sihla Church, has told IPN that this is one of the 12 Great Feasts of the Orthodox Church and one of the four Marian feasts. The significance of this feast is very important for the Christians. The parishioners are expected to the service and to take communion.

On this day, those who fast are allowed to eat fish and oil and drink wine. “It is a feast when these persons take a break and accumulate strength for fasting further by eating fish,” said Nicolae Burlacu. He added that fish and wine are also allowed on Palm Sunday, which is celebrated one week before Easter.

People say that the weather on Easter will be similar to the weather on the Annunciation
