The residential institution talked about in a Facebook post that went viral last week has turned out to be an establishment for young children with severe disabilities. Lucia Caiuc, head of the municipal Children’s Rights Directorate, told the City Hall meeting on Monday that the institution is under the Ministry of Health jurisdiction, and so it’s up to the Ministry to further probe this.
The FB complaint gave a false lead from the very beginning, speaking about an “orphanage” located in a different district of Chisinau. Even so, the directorate wasted no time and started investigating. In the ensuing inspections, the Directorate’s specialists did find “some deficiencies” in the visited locations, says Caiuc, but they were removed. A detailed report will be prepared for the Mayor’s Office.
Lucia Caciuc says that such cases must be treated with increased caution, because “if you avoid making a fuss on social media, but complain directly to the relevant authorities, those authorities could make unannounced checks.”
Last week, a woman complained on Facebook that young children in “a Buiucani orphanage” were being subjected to serious ill-treatment, with the caveat that she wasn’t a first-hand witness.
