Orphan first graders to receive social aid

Sixteen orphan children who will go to school in Chisinau in the 1st grade went to the City Hall today, August 19, where they met with representatives of the municipal administration. They will receive 4000 lei each and enjoyed today a special meal with sweets and entertainment, organized in partnership with a local restaurant, IPN reports.

Svetlana Chifa, the head of children's rights protection division, said that the money is alloted yearly for buying everything necessary for school – backpacks, clothes and school supplies. The children's meeting with the municipal administration has become a tradition and it is an important event for orphans who will go to school for the first time. Each child received a bell and enjoyed cookies and juice.

The head of the education, youth and sports division, Tatiana Nagnibeda-Tverdohleb, encouraged the 16 children and told them that they would meet new classmates and attend interesting classes. She bid them luck and congratulated the children's legal representatives, assuring them of the authorities' support.

This year, about 8500 children in Chisinau will go to school for the first time.
