Original documents relating to Moldova's independence exhibited at Parliament

An exhibition dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Moldova's independence opened today in the building of Parliament. Original documents, some of which are in a single copy, relating to the period of the establishment and affirmation of Moldova as an independent state were displayed.

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said that the exhibition embodies the efforts of an entire generation of those who laid the foundations of Moldova. According to the speaker, our mission is to make the most of this treasure and to preserve the memory of our ancestors. "We are fortunate to have the opportunity to discuss with the protagonists of independence, who had the courage to vote for the Declaration - an act of courage, supported by hundreds of thousands of Moldovan citizens. These days of celebration are particularly emotional moments. We must pass on this tradition to the new generations, thus explaining the value of a country's independence", said Igor Grosu.

On display at the Parliament are: the restored Declaration of Independence after the events of April 7, 2009, which includes the list of MPs of the first Parliament (1990-1994) who voted for the Declaration of Independence on August 27, 1991, pictures of the MPs who signed the Declaration of Independence, news of the Supreme Soviet and Cabinet of Soviet Moldavia from 1991.

The exhibition includes samples of the most important laws adopted by the Parliament of Independence, which laid the foundations of an independent state. It includes the minutes of the session of August 27 1991, on the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in the extraordinary session and the draft law on the ratification of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union and the European Community, in three volumes.
