Orheiul Vechi natural reservation set up
The natural reservation “Orheiul Vechi” will be organized in Moldova, the Parliament decided in the first reading on Thursday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
It is meant to protect the cultural landscape “Orheiul Vechi”, said Culture and Tourism Minister Artur Cozma. In 2005 Orheiul Vechi was included by UNESCO into a preliminary list of the world heritage. In order to include the site into the indicative list of UNESCO, it should be granted a special protection regime, the Minister said.
The reservation is to comprise the Orheiul Vechi Museum Complex, the Trebujeni landscape reservation, forests, fields and roads, agri-tourism resorts and private vacation houses.
The reservation will be declared as area of national interest and this stirred the opposition MPs. The Minister assured the Government does not want to nationalize private lands in the area.
