The councilors of the majority group on the Orhei Town Council said they will reject the anticorruption prosecutors’ request to suspend Ilan Shor from the post of mayor of Orhei and will stage large-scale protests. The intention was formulated in a news conference on July 4, IPN reports.
According to the councilors who gave the news conference, the Orhei Town Council will meet on July 5 to examine the request to suspend Ilan Shor, but this will be rejected. Moreover, the Orhei councilors accuse the prosecutors of abuses and televised justice and announce their intention to mount protests until the mayor is set free.
“We are obliged to discuss this subject and will discuss it in the next meeting of the Council. But the whole group makes common cause with Ilan Shor, who is not to blame and the vote will be negative,” said the local councilors.
According to them, the prosecutors commits an abuse against Ilan Shor under the pressure of paid NGOs and some of the media outlets. They described prosecutors’ acts as politicized and televised justice and announced that they will seek help from international organizations.
Furthermore, the Orhei councilors said they will stage large-scale protests until Ilan Shor is released.
