A group of Moldovan young people launched the Organization of Euro Atlantist Youths (OTEA) on May 24. According to the young people, their goal is to modify the people’s views about the European and north-Atlantic values and to attract foreign projects and partnerships, IPN reports.

“Given that society in Moldova is misinformed about the culture, values and politics of the NATO, we decided to create an organization that will promote the north-Atlantic and European policies. We believe that the young generation must more actively become involved in the social, economic and political life,” said Ion Chitoroga, student at the law faculty of the State University of Moldova (USM). He added that all the states of the European Union are members of the NATO and in the current political crisis experienced by Moldova, joining NATO would be a way out of the impasse.

Officially, the organization was registered on April 10, 2013. It includes 100 members, who are all students. Victor Rusu, a student of the USM, said that information and promotion activities will be carried out at national level. “We will stage information training seminars for young people and will invite officials. We will also travel to the areas where the people do not know much about the NATO,” said the student. According to him, the people of middle age associate NATO only with military operations and conflicts. “The NATO ensures the economic, political and social security of the member states and should not be associated with conflicts,” said Victor Rusu.

The young people announced that they will try to open a branch in the Transnistrian region. All those who want to form part of the OTEA team and are younger than 30, shall send the CV to the organization’s email address (aootea@yahoo.com).

The Organization of Euro Atlantist Youths aims to promote culture, democracy and the rule of law. Similar organizations exist in Romania and Ukraine.
