For the first time in the Republic of Moldova, an organ taken from a donor from Romania was transplanted in the country to a women diagnosed with end-stage liver disease, IPN reports, with reference to the Ministry of Health.
The liver was taken to Moldova based on an agreement on organ donation and transplantation signed by representatives of the Transplant Agencies of the two countries.
The surgery performed at the National Clinical Hoopster “Timofei Moșneaga” involved 50 medical workers, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, intensive therapy doctors and medical assistants. This lasted for about seven hours and was successful. The patient feels well.
Based on the same agreement, Moldova on May 26 sent to Romania the kidneys of a donor as compatible persons weren’t identified. The kidneys were taken from a brain dead man whose family agreed to donate the kidneys. Two men, one from Romania and another one from Moldova, but who lives in Romania, aged 36 and 63, benefited from kidney transplant at “Dr. C.I Parhon” Clinical Hospital in Iasi.
Over 8 million lei was earmarked in 2022 for transplant surgery. A liver transplant costs about 790,000 lei.
