Optional Protocol to UN Convention on Rights of the Child ratified

Parliament approved the ratification of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child on a Communications Procedure. The treaty institutes the international procedure for submitting complains about the violation of the rights of the child and the procedures for interstate communication and for investigating serious or systemic violations, IPN reports.

This way, the children will be able to file complaints directly to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child if they consider that their rights were violated and the problem wasn’t solved at national level.

According to the sponsor, the implementation of the protocol will have a positive impact on the realization of the rights of the child, this being also an instrument for improving the normative and legal frameworks and policies.

The UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted by the UN General Assembly on November 20, 1989 and was ratified by the Republic of Moldova in 1990.
