Representatives of those three opposition parties in parliament told a news conference Friday they could not ignore the elections being rigged and would not recognize them, even for the sake of the presidency, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Government is main in any state,” said Mihai Ghimpu, the president of the Liberal Party (PL). “Neither in 2009, nor in 2005 the voters gave the Communists (PCRM) the position of the president. We shall first see who is the power and who is the opposition,” said Mihai Ghimpu, reiterating that the elections were rigged. “Even in Moldova the politics should be based on principles, on visions. There is no place for verticality in politics. We cannot talk about any bargains, since we demonstrated the elections were rigged,” said Iurie Leanca, an MP from the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM.) And the first deputy president of Our Moldova Alliance, Veaceslav Untila, expressed the same opinion. He said that after an experiment, they proved that the PCRM called the opposition to a dialogue but formally. “We put up several conditions for the Communists, the fulfillment of which may lead to a dialogue,” Untila said, specifying he saw no reaction from the PCRM. The PCRM has but 60 seats in the parliament, short of only one to elect a president. The PL, PLDM and AMN, holding 41 seats together, repeatedly stated they would not participate in electing a Communist president and would not accept any key position in the parliament. In case a president is not elected, the parliament will be dissolved and early elections will be called. After the plenary sitting of the PCRM, on May 7, the party announced it offers an office of deputy president of the parliament to the opposition parties. The Communist MPs said the nomination for a president was not discussed at the plenary sitting. The sitting was held behind closed doors.
