Opposition presents election rigging proofs to Czech Premier
The leaders of the three Opposition parties that passed the election threshold had a meeting with the outgoing Prime Minister of the Czech Republic Mirek Topolanek on Wednesday. They showed to him proofs that the April 5 elections were rigged. The Opposition demands that the results of the elections be invalidated and that new elections be held, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Topolanek met with the leaders of the Opposition parties before the meetings with Moldova’s outgoing president Vladimir Voronin and Prime Minister Zinaida Greceanai.
“We discussed about the internal situation in Moldova and about the regional situation, especially the relations with Romania and the European organizations. The representatives of the three parties presented a series of documents about the situation after the elections and certain evidence that the votes could be rigged. Certainly, I will present all these materials at the Summit of the EU Foreign Ministers next week,” Mirek Topolanek told the reporters.
The Czech official refrained from making assessments before discussing with the President and the Prime Minister.
“It was a short, but consistent meeting,” the president of the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) Vlad Filat told the press. “We informed the Czech Premier about the serious violations committed during the electoral process in Moldova, about what happened after April 7 - torture, cases of death, and, very important, about the need for the European Union to give an objective assessment of the events that took place in Moldova,” Filat added.
“It is evident and Mr Topolanek understands that the elections are stolen by the Communists and at least 10% of the votes have been falsified,” said the president of the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN), Serafim Urecheanu. “I asked that the Constitutional Court treats the proofs seriously because we know that the Communists use this Court and the Court of Appeals as its instruments. If the violations are proved, we will demand holding early elections under the rigorous control of the European Union, the Council of Europe, the OSCE and other European organizations,” Urecheanu said.
The president of the Liberal Party (PL) Mihai Ghimpu voiced hope that the EU will make a correct decision over the elections and the April 7-8 events. “We insist on the verification of the methods by which the PCRM won the seats. We presented 20,000 proofs after checking only 25% of the electoral registers in 10 districts. 20,000 proofs represent almost two MP seats. It is outrageous,” Ghimpu said.
The leaders of the three parties will have meetings with the president of the European Parliament and a number of European MPs in Strasbourg on April 23. “We trust that the situation in Moldova will be assessed objectively, to meet the interests of the Moldovan people not the interests of certain strategic plans and for stabilities often declared in Chisinau,” Vlad Filat said. The Opposition leaders will demand the creation of a European commission that would investigate the events that happened after the elections. “We will make this proposal because the national commission set up by Voronin is amusing if not sad as it includes only Communist leaders and we can expect only lies, lies, lies,” Serafim Urecheanu said.
Mirek Topolanek, whose country holds the presidency of the European Union, has paid a one-day visit to Chisinau to familiarize himself with the situation in Moldova following the April 5 parliamentary elections.
