The Liberal Party (LP) voices its disagreement and reproves the initiatives of the PCRM and PPCD fractions within the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) to auction off “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” stations, Dorin Chirtoaca, vice president of the party, told a news conference held on Tuesday December 5. According to Chirtoaca, by this decision the CMC has ignored the citizens’ will, blindly obeying the orders of the central authority, which makes the CMC unrepresentative. LP thinks that “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” achieved their status of public radio and TV stations thanks to its experience, content of the programmes, staffs they have. The diversity of the expressed opinions, the journalists’ prompt reaction to the citizens’ complaints, possibility of expression during the interactive programmes confirm the quality of these stations of public broadcasting institutions, the cited source said. According to Chirtoaca, the Parliament’s and CMC’s disregard of this reality and the pressure exerted with a view to selling “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” stations is an act of political irresponsibility and disrespect of the citizens’ will. Moreover, the examinations and recommendations of the European institutions are used as a shield for satisfying certain narrow interests, to the detriment of the public interest. The Liberal Party makes solidarity with the two collectives of “Antena C” and “Euro TV Chisinau” and makes an appeal to the political parties, civil society and citizens to support the two institutions as public broadcasting stations. CMC has decided on the reorganisation of the two institutions on November 30.
