Opposition parties were victims of regime established in Moldova, analyst

The Opposition parties should adopt a common attitude and refuse to recognize the legality of the parliamentary elections and to participate in the election of the head of state and in the legislative process. They should invoke the respect for the democratic standards for early polls, Igor Munteanu, the executive director of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul”, has told Info-Prim Neo. “Each of these options should be based on a joint strategy of the Opposition parties that were victims of the regime established in Moldova,” Munteanu said. According to him, the elections were rigged as the leaders of the Communist Party (PCRM) did not quit their official posts while campaigning and thus had an advantage over the other runners. “I consider that this fact has direct consequences for the legality of the political system in Moldova,” he said. Another aspect that disadvantaged the Opposition parties, according to Igor Munteanu, was the lax attitude of the Central Election Commission towards the intimidations and physical violence against the opponents of the ruling party. The rise in pensions several days before the elections, the increase in salaries during the last months and other electoral presents made the undecided voters to choose the PCRM, the Institute’s executive director said. “The undecided persons supported the PCRM as they voted with the stomach.” The analyst thinks that the future Communist government will not bring qualitative changes in the governance act. “The economy cannot be developed when the Communist Party is in power. The PCRM parasitized the economy fueled by remittances. Another paradigm is needed, but the PCRM lacks solutions,” Munteanu said.
