Opposition MPs have differing options about early elections

Representatives of the two parties of the parliamentary opposition – the Party of Socialists and the Communist Party – have dissenting opinions about the early legislative elections. The Socialist MPs insist on early elections, while the Communists say these will be to the detriment of the Moldovan people. The issue was discussed in the talk show “Reply” on Prime TV channel, IPN reports.

Socialist lawmaker Vladimir Turcan said there is no other way for overcoming the crisis. “We want early elections so that we come to power. Most of the people want early elections as they do not want these corrupt politicians to govern the country further. The last polls demonstrate this,” he stated.

On the other hand, Communist MP Sergiu Stati considers the early parliamentary elections will bring no positive results.  “We made a call to form a center-left alliance. We are bothered by the insistence by which the Socialists promote the early elections. We hope the political class will become more mature in the near future,” said Stati.

Law expert Vitali Catana said the Socialists want early elections because the polls show that they will gain a large number of seats. “The early elections will bring nothing good and will even worsen the situation. Things started to move on in the case of Banca de Economii and Moldovagaz. The possible elections would stop these developments. It must be clear that the way to healing is painful and very difficult,” he stated.
