Opposition leaves assembly hall, Communist MPs start voting
The Opposition parties left the assembly hall of the Parliament, saying they will not take part in the election of the head of state. The MPs of the Communist Party (PCRM) started to vote, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Representatives of the Opposition are present in the hall of the Palace of the Republic, where the polling booth and box were placed. They say yet they only want to see how the voting process will take place, but they will not vote.
The PLDM leader Vlad Filat told the reporters that he wants early elections so that the people elect a president that would represent the entire country, not a president for the Communist Party and its leader Vladimir Voronin.
The PL leader Mihai Ghimpu said that his party will vote neither for a Communist nor for a non-Communist president because they do not want to legalize the illegalities committed by the PCRM during eight years of government – vote rigging and, especially, torture and maltreatment of persons after the April 7 protests.
The AMN leader Serafim Urecheanu said the three parties decided not to take part in the election of the head of state on April 6, when they ascertained that the elections had been fixed. He also said that the Opposition is ready to negotiate with the PCRM to reach a compromise, but only after it fulfills the Resolution of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe and accepts the conditions imposed by the three parties.
