Opposition has four days to verify electoral lists
The Liberal Party (PL), the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) and the Moldova Noastra Alliance (AMN) have four days at the disposal, from April 9, to check the registers of voters used in the April 5 parliamentary elections. Such a decision was unanimously made by the Central Election Commission (CEC) on Wednesday evening, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The three parties insist that re-counting of the votes would reveal irregularities that favored the ruling party in the legislative elections.
Victor Morgoci, Stefan Creanga and Victor Railean, the representatives of the Opposition parties at the CEC, said that the lists included thousands of dead persons whose documents were used by somebody else to vote.
The three told Info-Prim Neo that the four-day term is very short for verifying all the registers. Yet, Victor Railean, the representative of the AMN, said that the term could be extended if need be. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fact that the procedure takes a lot of time as they need to obtain the consent of the presidents of the district electoral councils through the agency of the district courts.
The elections are to be validated by the Constitutional Court. If the Opposition finds dead persons included in the electoral lists, the elections could be declared invalid.
From the start of this week, thousands of persons have protested in the center of Chisinau against the election outcome according to which the Communist Party polled about half of the vote.
