Opposition and extraparliamentary parties increased presence on TV

The broadcasters in the period between November 9 and 15 provided more airtime to the opposition and extraparliamentary parties - 31% as against 27.3% in the previous monitoring report produced by the Broadcasting Coordination Council (BCC). Thirteen TV channels broadcast 497 electoral materials, fewer than in the period prior to the monitoring period, when there were broadcast 662 electoral materials, IPN reports.

The same report shows that eight broadcasters committed violations in covering the election campaign, favoring or disadvantaging the election runners. “Prime”, “Publika TV”, “Canal 3”, and “Canal 2” favored the PDM. “N 4” and “TV 7” presented mainly the PLDM, while “Accent TV” – the Party “Patria”. The TV channels that broadcast the election campaign equidistantly and impartially are: “Moldova 1”, “Pro TV Chisinau”, “Euro TV”, “RTR Moldova”, and “Ren Moldova”.

BCC chairman Dinu Ciocanu said that the situation has improved as regards the covering of the election campaign, but there are yet shortcomings. “I call on the broadcasters to provide a maximum amount of airtime to all the election runners on this last 100 meters,” he stated.

BCC member Mariana Onceanu-Hadarca said that 31.4% of the electoral airtime was provided for the opposition and extraparliamentary parties. This is a positive sign showing that they have increased access to the broadcast media.
