Opportunities of DCFTA discussed in third EU Business Forum

The Moldovan entrepreneurs fully benefit from the provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement (DCFTA) with the European Union. During the two years since Moldova has a Free Trade Regime with the EU, the European market has become the most important one for Moldova’s exports. Also, the Moldovan entrepreneurs can access more European projects to develop their business. Such issues are discussed in the third Business Forum “European Union for the Business of the Republic of Moldova,” IPN reports.

Urszula Pallasz, of the EU Delegation to Moldova, noted that the Business Forum was organized in order to ensure communication between businesspeople and to help them establish new relations and familiarize themselves with the EU projects. “We see that the event involves more women. This means that the business in Moldova has a female face and this is laudable,” said the representative of the EU Delegation.

Urszula Pallasz also said that the implementation of the DCFTA in Moldova will help strengthen the institutions and modernize the country, especially the aspects related to the business sector. “We are convinced that the implementation of the DCFTA will result in a common and simplified system of rules that will facilitate the development of the business sector,” she stated.

Angela Susan, secretary of state at the Ministry of Economy, said that during the two years of implementation of the DCFTA, the European Union showed to the Moldovan entrepreneurs that it is not only a worthy, but also a stable and predictable partner. Moldova’s exports to the EU reached 63% of all the exports. As many as 1,050 Moldovan companies export products to the EU.

Gheorghe Strelciuc, manager of an agricultural farm in Soldanesti, said he has acquaintances in Romania, Germany and Poland who want to invest in the Republic of Moldova, but consider that this is very risky. “All those who want to invest in Moldova measure seven times and cut once,” he stated. According to him, a lot of work is to be done for the Moldovan entrepreneurs to change the mentality and stop work when they do not make profit. The entrepreneur added that the young businessmen face bigger problems when they want to access financial resources.

Stela Chiriac, administrator of a company that makes biomass briquettes, said the businesspeople need consultancy in marketing and knowledge how to develop the business. To modernize the technology and equipment, their company needs about €100,000.

In the event, there was launched the Romanian version of the web platform EU4Business, which is intended for the Eastern Partnership countries. The portal will provide information about the European projects and offered support, successful stories and the agenda of EU4Business, including all kinds of seminars, consultancy events and training courses that the interested entrepreneurs could attend.
