Opportunities for young people who choose dual technical education

The young people who will choose dual technical vocational education will benefit from 1,500 formation and employment opportunities provided by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research. The dual technical vocational education was included in the offer of over 20 national education institutions and involves over 70 companies. A national information and promotion campaign on dual education entitled “Study, Work, Gain!” was launched on May 21, IPN reports.

Attending the launch, Minister of Education Monica Babuc said the demand for skilled labor force on the part of companies rises annually, with the filling of the provided jobs being increasingly difficult. The dual technical vocational education is an alternative form of education that enjoys success in the European countries.

Oana Vodita, manager of the GIZ Moldova Project “Structural reform in technical vocational education in the Republic of Moldova”, said dual education offers the young people possibilities of learning and gaining experience and practical skills and of simultaneously profiting from financial independence at an early age, receiving both scholarship and apprenticeship wage. The involved companies also enjoy multiple advantages. They can “grow” highly qualified personnel according to the own needs.

A dual education system combines apprenticeships in a company and vocational education at a vocational school in one course, at a ratio of 30% to 70%. The apprentices within this system are not on probation. They have a status similar to that of employees and sign an apprenticeship contract with the company and get an apprenticeship salary.

The Project “Structural reform in technical vocational education in the Republic of Moldova” is implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation in partnership with the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research and is financed by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and the Economic Council under the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova that promoted the approval by the Government of the regulations concerning the organization and introduction of dual education in Moldova.
