Ophthalmologist from Bălți succumbs to COVID-19

An ophthalmologist diagnosed with the novel coronavirus passed away. Lilia Lukyanyuk, 59, was being treated at the Bălți Clinical Hospital.

Contacted by IPN for details, spokeswoman for the Bălți Clinical Hospital Mihaela Petrov said the doctor was admitted to the institution with post-COVID-19 complications on January 6.

Lilia Lukyanyuk had worked as an ophthalmologist at the Bălți Clinical Hospital since 1987 until 2019. Before contracting the virus, she practiced in a private medical office.

Sixty-seven healthcare workers succumbed to COVID-19 in Moldova so far.

By January 7, Moldova has got 148,294 infections with the novel coronavirus. The death toll from COVID-19 now stands at over 3,100.
