Ophthalmologist arrested for passive corruption

An ophthalmologist from Floresti was arrested by anticorruption officers and prosecutors on suspicion of passive corruption. He was remanded in custody for 72 hours. A denouncer said the doctor, being a member of the Medical-Military Examination Commission, asked and received €100 for issuing a decision showing that this was not fit to do military service, IPN reports.

The ophthalmologist was caught red-handed after taking the money. He faces three to seven years in jail, a fine of 80,000 to 120,000 lei and ban on holding particular public posts for five to ten years.
