The opening of Palanca Joint Border Crossing Point set for December 21 was put off until a later date that will be announced later. The Customs Service said the inauguration of the new crossing point was postponed at the request of the Ukrainian side.
Asked about the reasons invoked by the Ukrainian side, the Border Police referred IPN’s reporter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, while the Ministry referred the reporter to the Customs Service, which said that it possesses no other information than that included in the broadcast press release.
Palanca State Border Crossing Point, jointly administrated by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, has been built from the ground up. Until now about 600 thousand persons were crossing the border annually through Palanca crossing point. The budget for building Palanca Border Crossing Point is €6.18 million, of which €4.5 million provided by the European Union and €1.68 million by the Government of the Republic of Moldova. The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program.
