Opening of customs posts in Transnistria is a challenge, Premier
The setting up of two customs post near Pohrebea village and the barrage of the Dubasari power plant by the Transnistrian authorities is a challenge, said Prime Minister Vlad Filat, anticipating that more such challenges will take place before the so-called presidential elections that will be held in the region, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I warn the public opinion that there will be many challenges in this period preceding the so-called elections in the Transnistrian region. The Government of Moldova will act calmly and responsibly and will not give satisfaction to those who mount challenges. We dealt with this situation in accordance with the principles and agreements that we reached with the foreign partners. We will continue to take steps so as to resolve the issue,” said the Premier.
The two customs posts were built up by the Transnistrian authorities on October 24. The Moldovan delegation to the Joint Control Commission asked that the representatives of the OSCE, Russia and Ukraine intervene immediately so as to remedy the situation and organize an extraordinary meeting of the Commission on the scene.
Inhabitants of Pohrebea village of Dubasari district staged protests on the spot. They are indignant because the road where the two customs posts were built up was repaired with the money of the Pohrebea mayor’s office and the villagers. The protesters intend to block the Chisinau-Dubasari road.
