Open Doors Day at children's ombudswoman

More than 25 children Monday visited the Human Rights Center within the Open Doors Day organized by the children's ombudswoman Tamara Plamadeala. The ombudswoman said openness, receptivity and cooperation with the children's ombudswoman is needed as the children are the ones who can help the authorities identify solutions to the problems faced by the younger generations, Info-Prim Neo reports. Speaking about the most important problems confronting the children in Moldova, Tamara Plamadeala mentioned the violation of the rights to education, to social assistance, to be raised in the family and to have own opinion. The ombudswoman stressed that the problems can be solved by concerted efforts. She said that they recently helped a family living in Buiucani district of Chisinau, who had not had electric power during 10 years owing to a conflict with the supplier. A single mother of two minor children asked the Human Rights Center to help her restore the water and power supply from which she was cut off in 1996. A number of deprived families were visited in the Transnistrian region. A family is living at a cattle farm and none of the children attend school. As a result of the approaches made by the ombudsman, the Government of Moldova promised to provide assistance to this family so that the children can go to school. For many times, those who seek help from the children's ombudswoman ask not only for financial assistance, but also for social support and psychological counseling. They must know that they will be heard and helped, Tamara Plamadeala said. The post of children's ombudswoman was instituted on October 30, 2008.
