The eighth edition of the Reunion of Romanian National Theaters held in Chisinau is coming closer to the spectators. For the first time, the program of the festival includes street performances that focus on nonverbal communication. Four open-air performances will be staged in the square of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater that hosts the reunion. All those interested can see the first street performance of the current edition on Thursday, at 5pm, IPN reports.

The nonverbal street performances will be given by students of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts, guided by director Oleg Mardari, on September 14, 16, 23, and 24. Petru Hadârcă, director general of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater, told a news conference that nonverbal performances were presented at festivals in Romania. “We have special students. We saw several plays inspired by the nonverbal movement, with vivant statutes. A part of the actors had experience as they work at Masca Theater, at Mihai Mălaimare’s theater, and we offered them to perform. This is an absolute premiere,” stated the director.

Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan noted that the diversity of the repertoire of the Reunion of Romanian National Theaters grows annually and this year there are presented radio plays, street theater, exhibitions and conferences. “We, on our European path, in our aspirations to join the European Union, will not come with another culture and with another paradigm of this culture. We will come to the big European family to supplement what is called “Romanian culture”. The Romanian culture without the culture of the Republic of Moldova, of Bessarabia, is not complete,” stated the official.
 
Liviu Jicman, president of the Romanian Cultural Institute, said the Reunion of Romanian National Theaters is a stage on which the best theater productions of Romania and Moldova are presented. The event expands annually. The theater is the crowning, the intertwining of plastic arts, music and image.

“I’m glad that this reunion gained consistency. It is a very clear, dynamic structure. I know that you also drew inspiration from what we did at the National Theater Festival and I’m glad about this. The ideas circulate freely. They do not have borders. It’s good that there is such a rigorous selection and the public here can indeed see the best plays of Romania at the moment,” said Marina Constantinescu, Romanian theater and film critic.

For the third consecutive year, the Reunion of Romanian National Theaters is held under the high patronage of the President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu and the President of Romania Klaus Iohannis. The festival is organized with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova and the Ministry of Culture of Romania, the Romanian Cultural Institute and “Mihai Eminescu” Romanian Cultural Institute in Chisinau.
