Over 2.5 million calls were made to the 112 Emergency Telephone Service during the first eight months of its launch. Only one in three calls refers to emergency cases. Of the reported emergencies, 74% necessitated the assistance of an ambulance team, 24% – the intervention of the police and only 2% – the assistance of firemen, IPN reports.

According to the director of the 112 Service Liviu Oboroc, an ambulance is most often called out in cases of hypertension, followed by cases of child disease and by stomachache and backache. When the intervention of the police is needed, the people report conflicts with neighbors, conflicts in the family or other types of conflicts. Road accidents rank second by the frequency of reporting, while the situations of aggression on the street or in the family rank third. The firefighters most often are called out to deal with vegetation fires, fires in the housing sector and cases when unblocking is needed.

Minister of Economy and Infrastructure Kiril Gaburici said the 112 Service will be further developed. In case of road accidents, it will automatically receive calls from cars that have an alert device incorporated. The system will record the speed that the car had before the accident and will exactly localize the vehicle. Another project concerns the equipment of emergency response teams with mobile terminals so that they could intervene when new emergencies appear on their route.
