Only half of all the children enrolled in kindergartens in Chisinau actually attend them. In most cases, their parents are on holiday and the children stay home with them or with their elder siblings. Florica Rusu, head of the pre-school education service within the Municipality’s division for education, youth and sport, told Info-Prim Neo that the number of children going to kindergartens varies during summer. According to kindergarten regulations, parents can leave their children at home for 75 days. Florica Rusu added that some kindergartens were closed for renovations. Three will undergo extensive repairs. The others will be closed for 3-4 weeks, according to necessity. There is a schedule for each sector. If parents can’t leave their children at home, the children will be temporarily transferred to nearby kindergartens. On September 1, all kindergartens will resume their activity. About 33,000 children attend the 155 kindergartens existing in Chisinau.
