Only 18 persons who graduated from the National Institute of Justice were employed as prosecutors last year even if many of the prosecutor’s offices lack staff, deputy prosecutor general Mircea Rosioru stated in the General Assembly of Prosecutors, IPN reports.

All those who applied for the vacancies were subject to the integrity test. “Of the last year’s class, 23 graduates applied to take part in the contest to fill the posts of prosecutor. At the first stage, there were accepted eight prosecutors who passed the polygraph test. Another ten were employed later, after the regulations were amended,” stated Mircea Rosioru.

The prosecutors last year were subject to professional assessment tests and the results were good. “The law on the prosecution service stipulates two ways of assessing the performance: ordinary and extraordinary. A number of 133 prosecutors were assessed, with two of these getting “excellent”, 126 – “very good”, five – “good” and no one – “insufficient” or “failed”,” said the deputy prosecutor general.

Last year, 35 prosecutors were penalized, while 32 were dismissed for disciplinary deviations or because they reached retirement. Four prosecutors were sentenced for committing different offenses.
