According to an investigation by RISE Moldova entitled “Transnistrization of justice”, the Moldovan police officers and prosecutors who investigate the crimes of the Transnistrian regime often become dependent on the de facto Transnistrian authorities because they work or live in places controlled by the Transnistrian administration, IPN reports.

“Nine in ten criminal cases started in Moldova over kidnapping or illegal detention in Transnistria do not reach the court. The incapacity of the authorities from the right bank of the river to bring to court the criminal cases started over serious violations of the human rights in Transnistria often leads to impunity for the Transnistrian persecutors. This leads to greater repression in the territory that is not controlled by Moldova,” journalist Vladimir Thorik, investigation author, state for IPN in a comment.

H explained that all those who give orders in Tiraspol and Chisinau, contributes to kidnapping or kidnaps, holds illegally or tortures people in Transnistria, for many years have traveled scot-free in Moldova, gone aboard, benefited from banking and transport systems of constitutional states.

For each of the readers to try and understand how hard for a resident of Transnistria is to protect their basic rights, the authors designed an additional project – the online game “Evasion to the other bank”.

“This quiz-game is an attempt to offer the public the possibility of being hostage during 10 minutes to a lawless establishment in Transnistria and, in general, on both banks of the Nistru, to experience different situations when then rights are violated by the self-styled authorities of the Transnistrian region, while the constitutional authorities of Moldova cannot protect you. Unlike real life, one can experience the same situation for several times and can choose different options for solving the same problems,” said project co-author Vladimir Thorik.
