One-year-old rushed to hospital with coffee burns

A boy aged one year was admitted to the hospital with burns after he splashed a cup of hot coffee onto himself. It happened in Chițcani village of the Transnistrian region, IPN reports.

The de facto ministry of foreign affairs of the Transnistrian region said the boy’s mother aged 26 poured a cup of coffee and started to prepare the milk for the child. At that moment, the boy drew the cup with coffee and splashed it onto himself.

The woman called an ambulance. The boy suffered burns on the face, chest and a hip. According to doctors, the child is out of danger. He was hospitalized together with his mother.

Burns and scalds are a major cause of serious injury in children aged between one and three, who are most at risk due to their increased mobility and natural curiosity. To avoid such incidents, it is recommended keeping hot drinks and pot handles out of reach of children and never leaving children alone in the bathroom or kitchen. If a child is burned, one should apply immediate first aid by placing the burn under cool running water for a minimum of 20 minutes and call an ambulance if the injury is severe.
