There is hope for Maria and Natalia Milis, the little twin sisters whose story stirred thousands of Moldovans. Last year, when they were only 8 months old, the girls were beaten by their mother who smashed them against the walls. Since then they have been placed in their grandmother's care. Natalia is getting better and better, and Maria will soon, too, undergo a treatment which she badly needs to help her out of the paralysis in which she is now. The Edelweiss Foundation made a 7,000 euros donation to cover the complex neurological treatment for Maria, the Foundation said in a press release.
23-month-old Maria is now paralytic, able to only eat, see and hear. The treatment she requires will start in November in a clinic abroad, which performs electromagnetic brain stimulation for very young children, a service unavailable in Moldova. Moldovan neurologists give Maria solid odds of being able to walk after such a treatment.
Her sister Natalia was lucky to recover faster from the comas caused by the brutal beating from their mother. Natalia can now do activities specific for their age. “We played with Natalia. She thanked us for the gifts and gave us a kiss. She cannot understand how serious is the condition of her sister. She is just a child, a beautiful child. Both the girls and their grandmother impressed us. We found Maria to be very receptive, and very quiet. She heard us, she felt our presence and she even smiled a few times at us. We are immensely glad to be able to help them”, said the representatives of the Edelweiss Foundation after a visit to the Milis family.
The grandmother was left speechless when she was told Edelweiss would take care of all the costs for Maria's treatment abroad. After the sisters fell into comas and their mother was stripped of her parental rights, grandma Milis was always by their side.
The Edelweiss Foundation will keep the public updated on the Milis twins' situation, says the press release.
