Less than a week after a child aged two from Chisinau died when he fell from the seventh floor, another boy, aged four, fell from the second floor of a building located on Haltei St. Press officer of the National Emergency Medicine Center Petru Cravet said the preliminary examinations showed the child suffered contusion of the internal organs and the thorax. He was taken to the Municipal Clinical Hospital “Valentin Ignatenko”.
Contacted by IPN, Veaceslav Plamadeala, head of the Hospital’s Emergency Admissions Section, said the child was lucky as he suffered minor injuries and will receive treatment at home.
Doctors warn that such accidents happen because the adults do not realize what can happen to a child even during a second. The kids must not be left unsupervised at least for a moment, especially with the windows are open. When airing the room, the adults should not leave the children alone in the room or should go out with them for a walk in the period. The mosquito nets can fall when they are pushed slightly, even by a child. There should be no tables, chairs or stands on the balcony or near the window as the children can mount them and can fall out.
A boy aged two from Chisinau died when he fell from the seventh floor of an apartment building on August 7. He leaned against the net and this yielded under his weight. A similar case happened in May, when a child aged one year and nine months from Chisinau died when he fell from the ninth floor of an apartment building where he lived with his family.
Information about how the child can be protected can be found at www.parinti.md and following the activities carried out within the awareness-raising campaigns designed to inform the parents about the measures that must be taken to prevent home accidents involving children younger than five within the REPEMOL (Regionalization of the Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Services in Moldova) Project. The project is financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and is implemented by the Center for Health Policies and Services.
